The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is a light rail system serving the redeveloped Docklands area of East London, England. It opened on 31 August 1987 and after extensions reaches north to Stratford, south to Lewisham, west to Bank in the City of London financial district, and east to Beckton and North Woolwich. DLR track and trains are not compatible with those of London Underground, but the two systems share a ticketing system and the DLR is shown on the London Underground Tube map. The DLR system has 39 stations and is expanding. In 2006 it carried over 60 million passengers. The Docklands Light Railway became 20 years old on 31 August 2007.
